Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Guardians:
We would like to take this time to welcome you and your child to Samuel Wilder King Intermediate School, home of the King Cobras. Here at King, we are committed to providing an excellent education for every student, every day. At the heart of our mission are high expectations for students and staff, with the belief that all students can learn, want to learn, and will learn during their time here.
As you prepare for the journey with us, please take the time to learn everything you can about King and be prepared for bumps along the way. The early teenage years are challenging for many children, and the following quote from one’s Instagram best captures their turmoil, “We fear rejection, want attention, crave affection, and dream of perfection.”
The following is a list of way you can remain involved in supporting your child during the intermediate years:
How to Best Support Our Kids
(excerpts from parent workshop “The Adolescent Brain” by Dr. Tracey Trevorrow)
We encourage you to contact your child’s teacher or counselor, if you have any questions or need assistance. Thank you for engaging in a partnership with us, as we embark on a remarkable adventure. This year will be truly transformational!
Aloha,
Wendy Matsuzaki

(excerpts from parent workshop “The Adolescent Brain” by Dr. Tracey Trevorrow)
- Be aware of the changes and challenges of adolescence – physical, emotional and social changes
- Listen with openness, empathy and understanding
- See the middle school years as a process for learning, not a test of their worthiness
- Encourage age-appropriate exploration of their interests and talents
- Teens need 9.25 hours of sleep each night. Establish healthy sleep schedules.
We encourage you to contact your child’s teacher or counselor, if you have any questions or need assistance. Thank you for engaging in a partnership with us, as we embark on a remarkable adventure. This year will be truly transformational!
